Why are you passionate about this work?

The presence of health disparities is one of the most glaring signs of inequity in our society. This work helps bring together two of the things that are my central goals as a person and a professional – social justice and improving the lives of the least fortunate among us.

What was your “aha” moment while working on equity-related efforts at your organization?

Discovering that there are others within my organization who are just as passionate about this work and that this is not a lonely struggle. Also, that using the appropriate framing can get buy-in from senior leaders and staff alike.

What part of the Disparities Leadership Program has been the most useful in moving your work forward?

Being given the tools to think about this work in an organized, systematic way has been the biggest benefit. It has helped convert what was my passion into a structured, well thought out program.

What is one piece of advice you would give anyone working on disparities/equity-related efforts?

Finding like-minded people who you also enjoy working with is the key. It will allow you to maintain focus and give you the resilience you undoubtedly need to stay the course on this challenging journey.
